Online Workplace Safety Training: COVID-19 Friendly
In the COVID-19 era, individuals and workplaces across Ontario are making extraordinary efforts to control and combat the spread of coronavirus.
These efforts include physical distancing, remote work (where possible), sanitization of facilities, enhanced PPE and hand-washing measures and much more.
When it comes to safety training, Ontario workplaces may find themselves in challenging times. Whether we are in lockdown or increased COVID safety measures, however, one aspect that can continue unimpeded is online workplace safety training.
In this edition of the ACT workplace safety blog, we’ll cover the online workplace safety training courses available to your organization and your team members.
WHMIS/GIS Safety Training – Online
WHMIS refers to Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System.
WHMIS is at its essence a system of labelling hazardous materials such as chemicals and other substances that can be toxic, explosive, cause burns or pose other threats to anyone in the vicinity – staff, visitors, even neighbors.
WHMIS 2015 GHS incorporates the worldwide hazard communication system called “Globally Harmonized System” that classifies and labels chemicals.
Online WHMIS safety training is designed to familiarize managers, supervisors and team members of your organization with the:
- Need for WHMIS
- Types of WHMIS labels and signage
- WHMIS safety data sheets (SDS)
- WHMIS pictograms
- WHMIS terminology
And other safety aspects of WHMIS that, when implemented, executed, maintained and improved upon in your workplace or job site will help bolster workplace safety.
This online workplace safety training enables members of your team to become certified in WHMIS GHS in Ontario and across Canada.
Online Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Safety Training
Another broad category of great importance to workplace safety is the Transportation of Dangerous Goods, also known as TDG.
TDG applies to all shippers, carriers, receivers and drivers who are involved in any aspect of shipping, delivering or receiving dangerous goods. These dangerous goods can include commonly transported items such as:
- Hazardous or toxic chemicals
- Explosives
- Flammable liquids & solids
- Gases
- Oxidizers
- Poison
- Radioactive materials
The definition of dangerous goods is derived from legislation on the Transportation of Dangerous Goods as passed and mandated by the federal Canadian government as well as the provincial government of Ontario.
Online TDG Safety Training courses are beneficial for anyone involved in the transportation of dangerous goods, as described above. This online workplace safety training enables members of your team to become certified in the transportation of dangerous goods in Ontario and across Canada.
