General information on course

Duration: One full day depending on the size of group and participant interaction

Who should attend: individuals who supervise or perform duties related to Traffic Control as part of their day-to-day job activities. Trianingin book 7 is intended for employees working for the following agencies and organizations: Provincial, Municipal, and private road authorities in Ontario and their contractors. Utilities, contractors, and others who may have approval to work on public roadways.

Course components

What You Will Learn:

Upon the successful completion of this safety training program, participants will understand:

  • The legislative requirements (Government Regulations, CSA Standards and Manufacturers’ Guidelines and Principles);
  • The duties and responsibilities of all workplace stakeholders;
  • What Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required to perform the duties;
  • The organization of traffic control devices;
  • The shapes and sizes of signage to be used in traffic control situations;
  • Safety for workers and motorists is paramount, including workers setting up, operating, and removing traffic control. The purpose of this training is to provide the basic guidelines for traffic control to be used by persons or agencies performing
    construction, maintenance, and utility work on any street or highway open to the public in the province of Ontario, to achieve satisfactory levels of safety for workers and motorists.

After this workshop you will be able to:

  • Know where to stand in order to regulate traffic flow;
  • Know how to signal appropriately and effectively to vehicle traffic;
  • Read and recognize danger signals;
  • Prepare and perform daily traffic control checklists;
  • Report vehicle operators who do not follow direction;
  • Know how to respond appropriate in an emergency;
  • Procedures and methods for Work Zone Traffic Control;
  • Preparation before beginning works: planning, organization, and design of traffic control; 
  • Traffic Control Devices: Application;
  • Signs: Specifications, Installation, Maintenance, sign details;
  • Channeling Devices Cones, barrels, etc;
  • Temporary markings and delineation.

By means of group discussion, case studies and one-on-one instruction, participants will gain the ability to apply what they learn in this course.
