COR certification (Certificate of Recognition) verifies that a construction related company has reached a safety level that is up to the national standard. The COR certification is offered by the IHSA (Infrastructure Health and Safety Association).
The time it takes to obtain your Certificate of Recognition™ depends on the existing Health and Safety Management System at your company, and whether it meets all existing COR™ requirements. Some companies are able to apply for COR™ certification very quickly, while other companies might take 12 to 18 months to implement all the elements required by the program. COR™ is valid for 3 years if requirements of the program’s standards are met and certification is maintained by submitting annual audits. A Letter of Good standard is issued each year verifying that the elements and auditing standards are met. After three years, the company must re-apply to the COR™ program and restart the process over again.
COR certification is often required for both public and private construction contracts in Ontario.
