Instructions On How To Do CPR In Case Of An Emergency

We always advise that persons try their best to avoid and prevent accidents, but despite the warnings and the guidelines on those things, accidents do happen. In high-risk jobs especially, there are things that employees should be trained to perform effectively, in the event of an accident or a health crisis. One of these essential skills is how to perform first-aid CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on another individual.

Below, we’ll give you a step-by-step guideline on performing CPR on a fellow employee who is non-respondent.

  1. Position the victim as flat on their back as possible. Gently tilt their head back with your palm pressing on their forehead and with a push on their chin as well.

  1. Take the base of your palm and place it on the individual’s breastbone, exactly between their nipples and approximately 2 finger-widths over the meeting area of the lower ribs.

  1. Use your other hand to place on the top of the first hand, with your palms facing down and interlock your second hand’s fingers between your first hand’s fingers.

  1. Ensure that your arms are straight and rigidly positioned by positioning your body directly over your ‘clasped’ hands.

  1. Push onto the person’s chest by using your upper body strength. Lock your elbows to push – don’t flex your elbows.

  1. Do 30 chest compressions on the victim and press down about 2 inches or 5 cm for each. These can help to improve the heartbeat or correct irregular heart rhythms.
