Trenching Safety Awareness

General information on course

Excavation of soil for construction and repair or maintenance work poses many hazards to individuals who must work in, and around, trenches. However, these hazards can be reduced considerably when proper trenching and shoring practices are followed.

Duration:

Can be a half day depending on the size of the group and participant interaction.

Who Should Attend:

Individuals who are exposed to trenching hazards as part of their day-to-day job activities.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

After completing this health and safety training session, participants will understand:

  • The legislative requirements (Government Regulations, CSA Standards and Manufacturers’ Guidelines and Principles);
  • The duties and responsibilities of workplace stakeholders;
  • Accidents, injuries and fatalities associated with trenching;
  • Soil types;
  • Cave-ins and protective measures.

AFTER THIS WORKSHOP YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:

  • Complete inspections of trenching work areas;
  • Recognize, assess and control hazards and implement appropriate safeguards;
  • Understand emergency procedures associated with trenching.

By means of group discussion, case studies and one-on-one instruction, participants will gain the ability to apply what they learn in this course.
