General information on course

Anyone who works in any kind of workplace should know how and when to use a fire extinguisher as well as when to fight and when to flee a fire. All workplaces should have fire extinguishers and employees must know how to use them (as outlined in the National Fire Code). Employees and property owners have a responsibility for protecting life and property from the effects of fire and other emergencies. Participants must complete and pass this course to receive their record of training (ROT).

Duration:

Can be a half-day depending on the size of the group and participant interaction.

Who Should Attend:

This program has been developed for all workplace participants.

Course components

What You Will Learn

After completing this health and safety training session, participants will understand:

  • The legislative requirements (Government Regulations, CSA Standards and Manufacturers’ Guidelines and Principles);
  • The duties and responsibilities of workplace stakeholders;
  • The duties of a Fire Warden and how to perform them in a safe manner;
  • The four types of fire extinguishers and their uses;
  • Building safety features, evacuation plans and locations.

After This Workshop You Will Be Able To:

  • Know how to determine whether to fight or flee a fire;
  • Know where to locate fire extinguishers in the workplace;
  • Know how to use a fire extinguisher.

By means of group discussion, case studies and one-on-one instruction, participants will gain the ability to apply what they learn in this course.
